The Library has several Notaries on staff. Notary services are free and regulated by Illinois law.

Make an Appointment

Members are encouraged to make an appointment to ensure that a Notary will be available when they come to the Library. To request an appointment, fill out the online form or call the Library at 708-485-6917.

What to Bring

  • Your unsigned documents (you must sign them in front of the Notary). Documents cannot have blanks, corrections or missing pages.
  • Witnesses, if required (Library staff cannot serve as witnesses).
  • A current state or federal ID with your photo and signature, such as a driver’s license or passport.

Good to Know

  • Notaries cannot give legal advice, nor advise or instruct on how to complete documents.
  • LSF Brookfield Library Notaries do not notarize Cook County real estate documents or I-9 forms.
  • Due to Illinois notary law, we are unable to certify copies.
  • Illinois law requires that a Notary and the patron seeking notarization be able to communicate directly with each other. The Library Notary is not permitted to make use of a translator.
  • Spanish speaking notaries are available by appointment. Please request a Spanish-speaking Notary when scheduling your appointment.
  • Copiers, fax, and computers available for your use.
