Brookfield Seed Library

LSF Brookfield Library is partnering with the Brookfield Conservation Commission and the Brookfield Garden Club to start a seed library of native plants. This seed library will offer residents the opportunity to share seeds harvested locally, and increase Brookfield's biodiversity.

Seed libraries don't sprout overnight. Over the next few months, we'll be cultivating this new resource by offering a series of events on how to plant, grow, and harvest native seeds. Watch this space for more information!

If you would like to contribute to our Seed Library, please bring your seeds to the second floor reference desk. The seeds will be processed and packaged by our volunteers from the Brookfield Native Plants Group and made available for residents for their own gardens. Currently, we have the following seeds available to take:

Canada Rye
Common Milkweed
Cordgrass
Golden Alexander
Indian grass
Little Bluestem
Prairie Dropseed
Virginia Rye
Wild Golden Glow
Wild Quinine
Wild Senna

If you are interested in signing up to receive information by e-mail, and in sharing seeds of your own, please fill out our interest form here! The Brookfield Native Plants Club also has a Facebook page for sharing resources, information, and upcoming events, and can be accessed here. Join our Facebook group here!
