The Illinois State Library offers a Talking Book and Braille Service for blind, visually impaired, or physically handicapped residents. Services offered include talking books and the machines required to play them, Braille materials, a magazine service, and downloadable formats.

Residents must have a certified authority recommend them for the service. An Adult Services Librarian can assist you in this capacity if you decide to apply for the program. The Illinois State Library also offers a free Braille and Audio Reading Download (BARD) service for active Talking Books patrons. There are over 40,000 books, magazines and music scores available for download from the site.
